What are the Side Effects of Avodart?

Though Avodart is far less popular than its famous sibling, PROPECIA, it has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most effective hair loss products in the world today. There’s only one problem, Avodart has not been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration (USA)), which means that it cannot be sold as a prescription drug because it has not completed the appropriate number of tests and trails.

However, Avodart has been approved by the FDA for its originally intended use, prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). But with regard to its use as a medication to help fight the effects of male pattern baldness, there is honestly more rumour than fact.

The generic name of Avodart is Dutasteride, while the generic name for PROPECIA is Finasteride. As you can see from the morphology alone, these drugs are quite similar, which is why the side effects of Avodart are similar to those of PROPECIA.

What are they? Just like PROPECIA, Avodart targets a type of male hormone or testosterone that is commonly known as DHT. When the drug is taken for a prolonged period of time, the levels of this hormone will gradually be reduced. And for some men this can cause complications of a sexual nature.

The most common side effects of Avodart use are impotence and decreased libido. In clinical trials, one in about every twenty-five men experience these side effects. Of course, like most drugs, there are a few extremely rare but still disconcerting side effects. In these same tests, one in about every hundred men experienced some degree of gynecomastia (man boobs). All symptoms reportedly disappear when patients stop taking their medication.
