Why is Avodart said to be superior? Well, just like PROPECIA, Avodart inhibits the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is this male hormone, DHT, that doctors believe is primarily responsible for premature hair loss. But while PROPECIA blocks one hair harming enzyme, Avodart blocks two.

Still, it may be years before Avodart is approved to help win the war on male pattern baldness, since it has only been vetted by the FDA as a drug to control prostate enlargement. Only after a battery of exhaustive clinical trials will we know if Avodart is more effective than PROPECIA.
